Biography
Dr. Aicha Bammoun got her academic qualifications (BSc, MSc, PhD) in the life sciences. A considerable part of her professional career has close links a wide range of national and international organizations. Since the early stages of her career, she has been involved in research projects on plant breeding and technology transfer as well as studies in different scientific areas mainly on gene mapping, biotechnology, plant breeding, seed production and planning national program on cross breeding for abiotic stress and resilience. Her work varied from being a lead person to interact within multidisciplinary teams. She acted as the focal point for IPGRI/CWANA (International Plant Genetic Resource Institute-Central West Asia and North Africa region) and was responsible to provide the national and regional partners with the best practices and lesson learnt from Global project on in situ conservation on farm of biodiversity and the transfer of results to regional and national levels. At ICESCO, as Director of Program in Science & Technology sector, she deals with many groups such as policy makers, scientists, international organizations, NGOs and other beneficiary groups e.g. students, professionals as well as academic institutions. Many tasks are assigned to implement each year studies and activities that consist on developing clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies and ICESCO’s vision as well as the Action Plans for the benefit of 54 Members states. These programs and projects undertaken are in various research axes mainly focusing on Science Technology and Innovation, digital technology, women in STI, emerging technologies, , capacity building of scientists and researchers in science and technology, the interaction between universities, research centers and private sector for sustainable development as well as identifying priority areas and monitoring the work plan in a multi-priority environment.
