Dr. Anna Jones (UK)

Anna qualified in medicine in London and worked for several years in clinical medicine and primary care. Her interest in public health developed after working in a small rural hospital in Kwazulu-Natal in the late 90s where she was able to witness at first hand the devastating impact of the HIV/ AIDS epidemic and associated socio-economic deprivation on the health and development of the local community. During her training in public health, she worked in London and the South East specialising as a Consultant in Health Protection. She also had the opportunity to work with the WHO / STOP polio programme in Ethiopia which helped to further her interest in global health and capacity building in low-income countries. Until 2016, she was based at Brighton and Sussex medical school (BSMS) in the Division of Medical Education. She now holds an honorary senior lecturer position at BSMS and continues to teach medical students and students on the global health and public health masters courses on climate change, environment and health. Her involvement with Peoples-uni began in 2009 with the development of the communicable disease module and since then she has been involved in the leadership and academic aspects of the programme as well as continuing to facilitate and support students directly.
