Biography
Dr Irina Safitri Zen is the Sustainability lecturer and researcher at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment, and the Head of Sustainability Reserach Unit of the Institute Sultan Iskandar (ISI), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Dr Irina reserach interest are mainly on the environmental management and policy, sustainability assessment and science, education for sustainable development (ESD) & climate change adaptation and mitigation. She has been the principal investigator of 12 research project and co-investigator of 11 research project during her tenureship in UTM and involved in 6 consultancy projects before joining UTM in 2010. She has almost 100 publications and presentations to date, including 35 full articles in refereed and indexed journal. She has graduated seven PhD students, three master and thirteen undergraduate students. She has been engaged as a resources person in several regional meeting of UNESCO in Asia Pacific; Biosphere Reserve and Sustainability Science, and as environmental management consultant in over 10 local and overseas projects. He has been consulted by the United Nations Education and Scientific Cultural Organisations (UNESCO) for sustainable development and sustainability science and Melaka GreenTech under Melaka State Government for climate change governance: adaptation and mitigation. She is a founder of UTM Campus Sustainability initiatives (2011) and an initiator for the establishment of the Sustainable Development Solution Network (SDSN) UTM Chapter (2017), as part of the SDSN Global Network in implementing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She get used to work with an inter- and trans- disciplinary environment with various organizations, established extensive institutional linkages and part of several networks, i.e. the Sustainable Development Solution Network (SDSN) Malaysia, Malaysia GreenTech under Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Melaka GreenTech under Melaka State Government, UNESCO Office Jakarta, Regional Science Berau for Asia and the Pacific, Academy Leadership in Higher Education (AKEPT) under Ministry of Higher Education, Center for South East Asia Studies (CSEAS), Jakarta, to name a few. Recently, she is appointed to be part of Malaysia SDSN Leadership Council under the Prime Minister Office and Science Advisor for the Melaka Green Technology Corporation and continously promotes ESD through Malaysia Academy Leadership Academy (AKEPT), Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. She is actively attend and invited in forums, seminar and conferences at national, regional and international level and publish her research in numerous article in well established journal and books.
