Biography
Mike currently researches two fields: (a) innovation in East and South East Asia; and (b) innovation management in complex products and systems (CoPS). He has industrial experience in the semiconductor industry (Texas Instruments 1969-1978), a D.Phil. (in telecommunications in Brazil), MA Economics, and BA (Ist Hons) in Economics. Mike has published widely on how innovation in high technology, high value capital goods (called CoPS) contributes to competitiveness in the advanced countries. His book Innovation in East Asia, Edward Elgar, 1995, was the first detailed analysis of how East Asian firms, in countries such as Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong, learned to compete on the international stage. Since then he has published many articles on innovation in Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and other countries of the region. Mike has undertaken numerous consultancy projects for governments, private companies and international agencies. He has produced more than 150 publications, including five books and numerous articles and policy reports on industrial innovation and competitiveness.
