Biography
Herdis Herdiansyah is an Associate Professor and prominent scholar in Environmental Studies at Universitas Indonesia, specializing in environmental sociology, human ecology, and sustainable development. His research sits at the critical intersection of social systems and environmental management, with a particular focus on how human behavior, social capital, and community institutions drive ecological sustainability. Herdiansyah’s extensive body of work explores the social dimensions of waste management, corporate social responsibility (CSR) in environmental sectors, and community-based adaptation to environmental degradation. By utilizing socio-ecological perspectives, he critically analyzes environmental conflicts, public policy, and the role of social literacy in fostering ecological resilience. His scholarship significantly advances environmental sociology in Indonesia by advocating for participatory, socially inclusive governance models that empower local communities while mitigating the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation in both rural and urban landscapes.
