Biography

I hold a PhD and a M.Sc. in Water Management from the prestigious University of Gezira. During my doctoral research, I had the privilege of conducting a part of it at ZEF, University of Bonn in Germany. Furthermore, I also possess a B.Sc. in Agricultural Sciences from the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Gezira. In my current capacity, I am honored to serve as an Associate Professor (Deputy Vice-Chancellor) at the University of Gezira. My distinguished career encompasses a variety of significant roles at the university, including that of a diligent researcher and an inspiring lecturer. My research portfolio is diverse and encompasses various critical aspects of water management. This includes my focused work on integrated water resources management (IWRM), water governance, water harvesting, and the intricate dynamics of water management in the context of IWRM. In addition to my academic roles, I wholeheartedly engage in supervising graduate students, providing valuable training to stakeholders on pressing water management issues, and contributing to seminal publications. My academic contributions include authoring more than 15 papers in the field of water management. Furthermore, I have had the privilege of undertaking consultancy projects for renowned organizations such as LTS in the UK, the World Bank, IFAD, JICA, FAO, and the Ministry of Agriculture in Sudan. I have also been extensively involved in training non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in project cycle management and providing expert editorial assistance for reports across various esteemed institutions. My professional journey has also seen me occupy several noteworthy positions across different institutions. I have continually demonstrated my wide-ranging expertise through roles such as an intern at the Technical Regional Office – ENTRO in Ethiopia, a Senior Researcher and research lead at the esteemed Water Management and Irrigation Institute - University of Gezira, and as the Dean of the Institute at the same institution. Additionally, I have served as a Team leader for the project on water governance in Gash at DTGlobal-USAID and as an IWRM Expert for UNICEF Consultancies conducted by GeoMaster. My commitment to the field has also led me to assume the role of a consultant team Leader for nationwide IWRM in Sudan at JICA.
