Biography
Qumrun Naher Islam is a Ph.D. student in Development and Sustainability at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. With over a decade of experience at the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, she has led key national surveys and censuses, including the Population and Housing Census 2022 and Household Income and Expenditure Survey 2020-21. Her research focuses on health, nutrition, gender equality, poverty reduction, climate change, and disability-inclusive development. Qumrun’s work contributes to SDGs 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, and 13, with a focus on evidence-based policymaking and community-driven initiatives. She mentors data collectors and stakeholders, building Bangladesh’s capacity to achieve the SDGs. Qumrun has received several prestigious awards, including a Ph.D. fellowship from AIT, ASEAN scholarship for doctoral studies at Chulalongkorn University, the Vice Chancellor’s Gold Medal from BRAC University, and a European Union Fellowship for a master's program. Her work advances sustainable development through research and practice.
