Biography

Professor Al-Ouqaili is a professor of medical microbiology as a general speciality and Molecular Biology as an accurate speciality. He obtained the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Microbiology from the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad in 2007. He is a Member of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM)(2104-). Further, Professor Mushtak T.S. Al-Ouqaili is a National secretary of the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) as representative for all Iraqi Universities considering IAESTE is an international, non-political, independent organization for the placement of internships in over 85 countries worldwide. Al-Ouqaili has been a Teaching Staff Member in the Department of Microbiology, College of Medicine, University of Anbar since 2000 and till now.

My area of research interest is the molecular diagnosis of infectious disease, molecular cytogenetics including the detection of chromosomal abnormalities either numerical or structural aberrations in different diseases Y chromosome microdeletion and genetic detection of AZF region of Infertile individuals. Further, theoretical and practical background of antimicrobial activity in vitro and in vivo in addition to the mechanisms of resistance and the modern molecular genetic techniques to avoid it like phage therapy and CRISPR as genome editing technology are highly interesting fields of study. Al-Ouqaili has extensive Experience in molecular biology and molecular genetic techniques like DNA extraction from Prokaryotes, purification, restriction, plasmid extraction, PCR techniques, RT-PCR, Genetic analyzer, DNA sequencer and electrophoresis. Forensic DNA is a highly interested field of study due to high experience after obtaining global theoretical and practical training courses in different world countries under the supervision of CRDF, USA.

Professor Al-Ouqaili is the President of the University of Anbar (UoA)(June 9 2020-). Before this position, Al-Ouqaili was a Vice President for Scientific Affairs in UoA (June, 13-2017-July, 13-2020). On the other hand, Al-Ouqaili spent Eight Years (2012-2018) at the University of Anbar as the founding Dean of the College of Pharmacy at the same University and he supervised the graduation ceremonies of three groups of Pharmacy students during the period (2016-2018). Prior to that, He was a Deputy Dean for Administrative Affairs, College of Pharmacy (August, 15-2011-February, 7-2012). After that, he was officially the 1st Dean of the College Pharmacy (Founding Dean) in February 2012. Further, he had an academic position as a Head of the Department of Microbiology, College of Medicine, UoA during the period (2009-2011). Furthermore, he was appointed as a Deputy Dean for the administrative affairs of the College of Medicine in UoA twice (2004-2006). Early 2001-2004, he was appointed as a decision maker in the Department of Pharmacology and Department of Microbiology in the College of Medicine, UoA respectively. Professor Al-Ouqaili is on the foundation team for introducing the technique for forensic DNA in Iraq (2010-2013).

Professor Mushtak T.S. Al-Ouqaili has also been fortunate enough to have a wide variety of teaching experiences in conducting theoretical and practical lectures on Bacteriology for third-year students at the College of Medicine, UoA (2000-2012). Also, conducting theoretical and practical lectures on Immunology for third-year students at the College of Medicine, UoA (2000-2012). Further, conducting theoretical and practical lectures on antimicrobial agents in the field of Pharmacology for third-year students at the College of Medicine, UoA (2000-2002). He presented efficiently theoretical and practical lectures on medical biology/Molecular genetics for 1st year students at the College of Medicine, UoA (2010-2012). It is interesting to note that he was presented with a teaching experience in teaching theoretical and practical lectures on pharmaceutical microbiology and virology for 2nd-year students at the College of Pharmacy, UoA (2012-2017). Also, He teaches theoretical and practical lectures on "Antibiotics" in the field of Pharmacognosy for third-year students at the College of Pharmacy, UoA 2013-2016).

Having worked hardly in the field of postgraduate studies (2005-) as a Senior Professor (teaching, supervision and examiner) for M.Sc and PhD programs in different Iraqi Universities in the fields of Education, science, technology and medicine and he is a supervisor for more than 15 M.Sc. thesis and 20 PhD dissertation during the period (2010-). For more details, Al-Ouqaili conducted theoretical and practical lectures on Systematic Bacteriology, Diagnostic Microbiology, and Molecular biology for M.Sc programs in Medical Microbiology, College of Medicine, UoA (2005-2020). Also, he presents theoretical and practical lectures on advanced molecular biology, microbial genetics, molecular genetics, Biotechnology, and genomic and gene therapy for PhD students at the College of Science (2011-). It is important to document that Al-Ouqaili is one of the foundation teams for the PhD program in Medical Microbiology at the College of Medicine, UoA in 2021. Therefore, He has also continued presenting the courses of advanced molecular biology, advanced diagnostic microbiology, advanced medical microbiology, genomics and gene therapy for Ph.D. students in the College of Medicine, UoA from the launch and established year to the present time.
