Biography
Marcello Otake Sato is a Professor at Niigata University of Pharmacy and Medical and Life Sciences, Japan. He is a Brazilian parasitologist and global health researcher, and trained in veterinary medicine in Brazil. He was completing his MSc and PhD in medical sciences in Japan, he has developed an interdisciplinary career focusing on zoonotic and neglected parasitic diseases. His research centers on schistosomiasis and other helminth infections, with emphasis on environmental DNA surveillance, rapid point-of-care diagnostics, and community-based control strategies. Through collaborations across Asia and Latin America, he contributes to innovative tools for disease detection, environmental risk mapping, and integrated One Health interventions. By linking scientific innovation with field-based solutions and international partnerships, his work supports stronger health systems, protects vulnerable communities, and promotes sustainable approaches to infectious disease control, advancing global health equity and environmental resilience.
