Biography

Dr. Fida Karam is a passionate and accomplished faculty at the Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) in Kuwait. She holds a PhD and Master degree in Economics from the prestigious University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, where she specialized in International Economics. Dr. Karam is highly regarded for her excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. She is deeply committed to student success and has proven expertise in curriculum redesign, ensuring programs are both rigorous and relevant. Dr. Karam’s research is rooted in applied international and development economics, with a particular focus on sustainable development in the MENA region. Her work frequently explores migration, international trade and the impacts of trade policies, contributing valuable insights to both academia and policy-making in these fields. Dr. Karam has held several prominent leadership roles, including Head of the Economics and Finance Department at GUST, Chair of the Gulf Financial Center, and now Chair of GUST Center for Sustainable Development. Through these positions, she has driven impactful initiatives, enhancing the university’s contributions to sustainability in the region.
