Biography
Elsir Osama Satti is a passionate student at the University of Manchester, studying Economics and Politics. Elsir is the President of the Uni of Manchester Sudanese society, President and Founder of Run for Sudan, and Founder of Nile Garms. Over the years Elsir has always been a dedicated student, evident by his diverse set of experiences. Recently, Elsir completed an internship at Al-Satti law firm, where he was engaged in stakeholder management work, ensuring smooth process of communication by organising files and taking charge of numerous administrative tasks that streamlined legal requirements.
In 2022, Elsir completed a Diplomatic and Consular Affairs course at the Sudan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he acquired in-depth knowledge of immunities, work of joint ministerial committees, establishment of missions and consulates, gaining skills in managing state representation in international organisations and joint ministerial committees.
Elsir has also gained work experience at DAL Group, specifically in the business development department. Where he gained hands-on experience with ongoing projects, enhancing understanding of large-scale market strategies and organisational operations.
To address the two major issues in Sudan, poverty and waste, Elsir spearheaded an innovative project to build two fully functional demonstrations of houses using recycled plastic bottles. He partnered up with Sudan’s largest recycling company (Al-assad) to facilitate bi-weekly plastic collection drives at school, ensuring a continuous supply of materials and community engagement. Negotiated annual visits from the recycling company on Global Recycling Day to conduct educational talks, promoting environmental awareness and encouraging sustainable practices among students. Through this initiative, Elsir demonstrated creativity and problem-solving by leveraging waste as a resource, reducing local plastic pollution while providing low-cost housing solutions for underserved communities.
For his Extended Essay (EE) part of his International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Elsir wrote a 4000-word research essay on structural economics, specifically on how Rwanda reduced its structural unemployment post civil war, to provide Sudan an example to learn from the lessons of Rwanda as it was moving from the 2019 revolution.
For his environmental systems and societies internal assessment, Elsir produced a 15-page report analysing different types of soil to find the most suitable soil for planting in Sudan, which would help in yielding larger amounts of agricultural output.
Elsir has also participated in five Model United Nations conferences representing Nations such as China and the UK in various councils, Human Rights Council, the Economic and Social Council, etc. This allowed him to develop his debating skills on a wide range of issues, including political, social, and other issues concerning development and international relations
Elsir also participated in the prestigious Tayeb Salih writing competition in the Arabic and English languages, winning three consecutive first-place finishes.
Elsir was also a participant in the creativity, activity and service (CAS) trip to Chiang Mai Thailand as part of his IB Diploma, where he gained first-hand experience and insight into the rice economy of Southeast Asia.
