Biography
Dr. Shereen Abd Algaffar graduated in 2006 from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Science and
Technology, Omdurman. She got her M. Pharm. in Pharmacognosy from the Faculty of Pharmacy,
University of Khartoum 2018.
Shereen is a final-year PhD student at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Science and Technology,
Omdurman, Sudan, and Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, The Netherlands (Joint doctorate).
Since 2008, she has been enrolled at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Science and Technology,
Omdurman, Sudan, as a teaching assistant and then lecturer at the Department of Pharmaceutical
Sciences. In 2012, she was a junior researcher and then a deputy of the Pharmaceutical Research
Laboratory at the University of Science and Technology.
Shereen’s research focuses on drug discovery of bioactive molecules from natural products against non-
communicable diseases (diabetes mellitus) and non-communicable diseases, mainly Neglected Tropical
Diseases (NTDs), with a focus on fungal and bacterial mycetoma.
She has participated in several conferences, symposia, and workshops at national and international levels.
Shereen is a member of several scientific networks such as Natural Products Research for Eastern and
Central Africa (NAPRECA), Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA), Mycetoma
Working Group, and Research Network Natural Products against Neglected Diseases (ResNetNPND).
She has published several articles in prominent journals such as Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy,
Molecules, Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, and Microbiology Research.
She has received some scientific awards and scholarships throughout her short professional path.
