Biography
Udo Schickhoff is Professor of Physical Geography and Biogeography at the CEN Center for Earth System Research and Sustainability, Institute of Geography, University of Hamburg, Germany. Before joining the University of Hamburg, he held professorial positions in Physical Geography at the University of Bonn, Landscape Ecology at the University of Rostock, and Biodiversity at the University of Greifswald. He holds a PhD in Landscape Ecology and a MSc in Geography from the University of Münster. He integrates approaches of biosciences, geosciences, and social sciences into holistic biogeographical and landscape ecological research concepts with a strong focus on the world’s mountain regions. He is Chairman of the IGU (International Geographical Union) Commission on Biogeography and Biodiversity. He is author of several books, edited volumes, and more than 120 journal papers. He has supervised 15 PhD students and more than 100 BSc and MSc students.
