Biography
Alex Bowen recently joined the new Grantham Research Centre on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science as Principal Research Fellow. He is particularly interested in the design of policy regimes for tackling harmful climate change and in their macroeconomic consequences, including impacts on labour markets, firms and natural resource pricing. This interest was stimulated by his year on sabbatical contributing to the UK Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change as senior economic adviser. Alex Bowen previously worked at the Bank of England, most recently as Senior Policy Adviser (after periods responsible for the Bank’s regular Inflation Reports and Financial Stability Reviews).Prior to that, he had been Head of Policy Analysis and Statistics at the UK’s National Economic Development Office and an academic at the LSE and Brunel University. Alex Bowen received a BA in economics from Clare College, Cambridge, UK, and a PhD in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, where he studied as a Kennedy Scholar.
