Biography
RONALD is Emeritus Professor of Work and Employment at the University of Stirling. He has a Bachelors degree from Lancaster University, an MSc(Econ) from London School of Economics and a doctorate from Harvard University. He was formerly a policy advisor to various public bodies, the Director of the Employment Research Institute at Edinburgh Napier University and headed Economic Development at different local authorities. His research interests include employment and employability, the effects of ageing populations on labour markets, policy studies, partnership-working, entrepreneurship, sustainability and economic development. He has written over 100 academic papers on these issues and carried out research and policy studies on employment and transport issues for many regional, national and supra-national bodies such as the European Commission, UK, Scottish and Northern Ireland governments, UK Commission for Employment and Skills, the British Council, Joseph Rowntree Foundation and various other agencies and employers. Professor McQuaid was formerly a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, Fellow of the Higher Education and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce and member of the Regional Science Association and Regional Studies Association among other bodies.
