Description

Dr. Md, Shafiqul Islam completed his Post Doc from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) London, UK in 2020 and PhD in Disaster Management from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2019. Dr. Islam is currently working as an Associate Professor and Head, Department of Environmental Science at the State University of Bangladesh. Prior to current position he worked at the Center for Sustainable Development (CSD), University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh as an Assistant Professor for 10 years and at the Kazi and Kazi Organic Tea Estate as a Deputy General Manager for 8 years. He has been working in the development sectors (NGOs, private sector and university) for twenty four years (13 years for project management and 11 years for teaching and research) in cross range of fields. He worked for natural resource management, co-management of forest resources with a special focus on the impact of natural resources on local economy with the donor funded projects including DFID, USAID, DanChurchAid, GWAB and European Union. Taught several courses including atmospheric pollution management, environmental analysis and interpretation, climate change, seminar on grassroots economic development, urban environment, green cities and space, green economy, sustainable development, ecology (tropical and marine/mangrove), environmental management system, sociology, water resource management, natural resource management, society technology and engineering ethics, community development, biodiversity conservation, environmental science, disaster management, solid waste management, coastal development, adaptations to climate extreme, ecosystem management, disturbance ecology, habitat restoration, risk reduction and mitigation, and research methodology. He has participated and presented his research findings widely at the national and international conferences and has contributed UN Sustainable Development Report 2016. He has published more than 50 titles (books, book chapters, journal articles and research articles) both in the national and international peer reviewed journals. He visited several countries and presented papers in the international conferences, workshops and seminars. Dr. Islam is also received research grants from home and international collaborations. He emphasized on social ecological resilience, community resilience, coping and adaptation measures and sustainable approaches of drought management in the Barind Tract of Bangladesh. His research interest in the field of Environmental pollution, Environmental impacts, Disaster Risks Reduction (preparedness, response and rehabilitation), Disaster Management (impacts, vulnerability, loss and damage, panic, food adjustment) and human response system to disasters, disaster resilience infrastructures, social cohesion and disaster impacts, environmental management, and cost of disaster management, Biodiversity (agro biodiversity, wetland biodiversity, agro forestry, social forestry), Natural resource management ( forest, land , water and energy), Climate change (mitigation and adaptation), Sustainable development ( sustainable agriculture, waste management, disability), polycentric urban development and Ecology (Tropical, marine, mangrove and coastal ecology).
