Biography

Prof. Muryanto Amin has served as Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara since 2021, leading a period of institutional transformation that emphasises inclusive growth, social equity, and knowledge-based development. A political scientist by training, his academic career has focused on governance, public policy, and higher education management. Prior to becoming rector, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, where he strengthened academic quality, research productivity, and institutional partnerships. As rector, he has promoted policies that widen access to higher education, improve student support systems, and encourage research that addresses real societal challenges. His leadership emphasises community engagement, public health initiatives, gender-responsive environments, and collaborative programmes with government, industry, and international partners. Through performance-based governance, interdisciplinary innovation, and cross-sector partnerships, he positions the university as a catalyst for human capital development, community resilience, and sustainable regional progress.
